20-271: CONSULTANT - Virtual Instructor

Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:


Following the disastrous 2018 and 2019 Atlantic hurricane seasons, International Medical Corps has been requested by impacted health departments, healthcare coalitions, and health center facilities to leverage its experience internationally managing health and medical disasters to provide preparedness training to health care staff in communities recovering from disasters. The training program aims to strengthen the capacity of health department and medical facility personnel to prepare for health hazards in a manner that improves overall coordination and response to the needs of affected populations.

International Medical Corps has developed Health Hazard Vulnerability Analysis training materials to support health and medical partners in identifying and prioritizing hazards, and in crafting mitigation steps. As these materials were developed for in-person delivery, they are being adapted for a virtual audience.



This assignment includes synchronous and asynchronous components.

First, the Virtual Instructor will work in coordination with the Training Officer to develop recordings of training modules for asynchronous online consumption by healthcare facility, health department, and medical providers.

Second, the Virtual Instructor will support facilitation of real-time, virtual workshops, as scheduled by the Training Officer for healthcare facility, health department, and medical providers.



  • Participate in planning calls and practice sessions with International Medical Corps Staff responsible for training development and implementation.
  • In preparation for the recordings and workshop, review training materials, including the facilitation guide, PowerPoints, and other materials.
  • Prepare and familiarize with the subject matter and training methodologies as needed.
  • Record selected modules for online consumption using Zoom technology.
  • Facilitate online workshops of HVA review for healthcare facilities, health departments, and medical providers.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Training Officer.

The Virtual Instructor will learn the course materials and supplement as needed to deliver engaging training to remote healthcare participants (healthcare coalitions, healthcare facilities, local health departments) in recorded sessions. S/he will also work with the Training Officer and another instructor to facilitate virtual workshops utilizing Zoom technology to participants in real time.

Training evaluation and feedback will be facilitated by the Training Officer.

  • Degree in Medicine, Public Health, Nursing or other health related course, with a Master’s degree, preferably in Public Health


  • Clinical training in Infectious Diseases or Public Health
  • Demonstrated capacity in conducting training of trainers and other trainings, preferably in international settings
  • Experience working with an international NGO with involvement in implementing health projects
  • With excellent self-motivation, communications skills, both oral and written, and good interpersonal skills
  • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
  • Ability to relate to and motivate participants effectively
