International Medical Corps is responding to the humanitarian crisis in West Africa and is seeking candidates who are willing to be considered for positions in an anticipated program in Guinea-Bissau.
Under the guidance of the Medical Advisor, the IPC Environmental Health (WASH) Specialist’s main role is to lead the overall set-up and management of institutional health interventions and provide assistance and guidance to the associated locally operated health facility. The IPC Health Specialist will assume responsibility to operationalize effective EH related IPC activities and participate in hiring, training, and supervision of International Medical Corps Health staff assist, advise and train local health facility staff such as; physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinical staff on an established IPC curriculum.

• Oversee and advise on technical implementation of Environmental Health related activities and technically support IPC activities at the associated health facility.
• In close collaboration with Medical Coordinator, develop and ensure strict adherence to protocols and SOPs for health facilities and, where necessary, in community-based interventions.
• In close collaboration with Medical Coordinator, ensure the implementation an infection control program to ensure quality of care and safety of patients, caretakers and staff
• Ensure regular and effective communication with Medical Coordinator, all International Medical Corps team members, and associated health facilities leadership.
• Monitor and evaluate appropriate implementation of technical interventions against program objectives.
• Assure appropriate and timely implementation of EH / IPC interventions.
• Provide regular reports, document results and lessons learned, and maintain detailed records to Management IMC Team.
• In collaboration with relevant technical advisors, develop and deliver specific training for associated Health Facility staff.
• Manage, supervise and provide support to International Medical Corps IPC Environmental Health (WASH) staff at the supported facility and address any concerns raised in a timely and safe fashion.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to local health facility staff on IPC-related interventions at the health facility attached to the program
• Pro-actively maintain open and professional relations with International Medical Corps team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
• Overall responsibility for International Medical Corps IPC Environmental Health (WASH) staff work plans, including shifts and rotations, vacation schedules, staff training and development.
• Ensure adherence to and act in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
• Ensure standard precautions are in place and respected.
• Pro-actively participates at technical working groups, and ensures dissemination of relevant information to the Medical Program Coordinator.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
• Attend coordination meetings which are relevant to country programs as appropriate.
• Ensure maximum visibility of the agency amongst the NGO community.
• Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organizations Code of Conduct, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to internal and external actors.
Human Resources Management
• Assist in the selection and training of qualified program staff and recommend promotions, disciplinary action and termination of staff in consultation with the Country Director and Finance Director.
• Supervise staff to ensure their smooth and effective operations.
• Ensure compliance to local labor laws including working hours.
• Maintain open lines of communications with all field staff.
• Maintain frequent communication with Medical Program Director to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated.
• Work with Program staff and Logistics staff to ensure the coordination of programs supplies are within budgeted targets.
• Attend coordination meetings which are relevant to country activities.
• Interface with national government and relevant agencies as necessary.
• Collaborate with security officer/CD in order to maintain security of health staff in the field
Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
?Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
