International Medical Corps has been operating in CAR since 2007, primarily in the north-eastern regions of Vakaga and Haute-Kotto. In Vakaga, IMC is providing nutrition services and remains the only international organization delivering health assistance. In Haute-Kotto IMC is one of the main international actor implementing health, nutrition and protection integrated programs. International Medical Corps is also supporting IDPs and host population in Ouaka prefecture in the south of the country since 2016.
In CAR, IMC is supporting more than 50 health structures and 3 hospitals. Regarding degradation of health and nutritional status of the population affected by the conflicts ongoing in CAR, IMC integrates in its approach of intervention the package which include health, nutrition and protection activities with a focus on WASH sector. Particularly malnutrition is in alarming level in CAR specially in Vakaga’ where in June 2016 a SMART survey had been conducted which revealed SAM rate at 4,9% and a MAM rate at 13,1%.
The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for technical and management oversight of IMC nutrition component implemented in CAR.
