17-098: Volunteer Human Resources Training Specialist

Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

The Human Resources-Learning & Development unit (L&D) ensures that the International Medical Corps L&D function operates in accordance with best practices, maximizes in-house learning capabilities, supports innovative and cost effective approaches to staff learning and development, and contributes to continuous improvement in human performance. This L&D strategy is part of International Medical Corps’ organizational development and learning commitment. It articulates the workforce capabilities, skills and competencies required to ensure a sustainable, successful organization and it provides a framework for developing these capabilities to strengthen organizational effectiveness.


The Human Resources Training Specialist is responsible for designing, developing and delivering instructor led, e-learning and/or blended training programs, materials, courses, seminars, workshops and presentations in support of the overall training needs of the organization.  This position will work with internal and external customers to customize and implement organizational training initiatives. This position also provides general L&D support including record keeping, data entry and reporting requirements.

  • Design, develop, and deliver distance, in-class, and Web-based training programs and courses, including all course materials, exercises, and skills evaluations for target audiences.

  • Conduct needs analysis, determine learning objectives, competency indicators, and design course content in collaboration with the L&D team.

  • Assess, recommend, and assist with opportunities to implement face-to-face learning and computer-based training where requested or directed to do so.

  • Work closely with, and provide guidance to, Subject Matter Experts (SME) to develop or advise on the development of eLearning courses in line with the L&D Strategy.

  • Assist in supporting the HR/L&D team with any and all learning initiatives.

  •  Respond to requests for training documentation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Experience / Skills:


  • Master’s degree in organization design, human resources, or related field.

  • 7-9 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of curriculum design, learning models, and training effectiveness.

  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills; excellent oral and written English communication skills; good presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) certification in Human Performance Improvement (HPI) and E-learning Courseware Certification (ECC) desirable.

  • Ability to effectively carry out responsibilities of the position, working independently and without close supervision.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines.
