In response to the significant humanitarian needs in the South Sudan, IMC is providing comprehensive primary and secondary health care services to the people in need in Juba, Malakal, Maban, and Wau in the country. IMC also implements integrated activities in mental health, reproductive and sexual health, GBV prevention and response, and health outreach through its PHC structure. IMC also manages robust nutrition interventions across four operational areas: Juba PoC, Malakal, Maban, and Nyal.

To address the challenge of skilled health human resource in the country, IMC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners is implementing a three-year registered Midwifery and Nursing program in Juba College and Registered Midwifery training in Wau and Kajo Keji. The program seeks to reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality and morbidity rates in South Sudan by increasing the number of skilled birth attendants in the country through training of registered midwives and nurses. 

The Health Sciences Education Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring the quality of health science education programs implemented by IMC, including curricula used at three midwifery and nursing colleges in South Sudan in Juba, Kajo Keji (facilitated currently in Juba) and Wau.  S/he will lead the design and implementation of IMC South Sudan’s health sciences education strategy using standard program management techniques and instruments (budgeting, monitoring, reporting, etc.). S/he will support the midwifery and nursing education staff in curriculum organization, use of right methodologies in teaching, and delivering essential knowledge and skills to the students.

Health science education program implementation and strategy development

  • Ensure optimal delivery of IMC’s health education program at three Health Science Institutes.
  • Develop IMC South Sudan’s health education program strategy in-line with the country strategy.
  • Develop credible and quality proposals to secure funding for health science education activities
  • Represent IMC in health education-related meetings at Juba level.
  • Build strong relationship with health education stakeholders and line ministries.
  • Engage in a variety of cross-organizational planning and implementation meetings.
  • Conduct assessments and identify potential areas for new business development in health sciences education sector in the country.


Program quality assurance

  • Hold regular meetings with education staff, including the Principals of the Health Science Institutes for supervision and monitoring
  • Support the continuous professional development of faculty at the three Health Science Institutes to ensure they are up-to-date on teaching theories, teaching methods and quality supervision and evaluation for students
  • Work with the M/E team in developing and implementing a detailed MEAL plan
  • Constantly monitor project performance and provide progress reports to the program director.
  • Monitor budget utilization and work with the finance team to ensure effective resource utilization for quality programming.

Compliance

  • Maintain strong accountability systems for IMCs programming, to minimize risk of divergence of assistance, as well as prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and other do no harm aspects.
  • Ensure compliance with IMC & donor policies, anti-terrorism regulations, and other legal requirements in close consultation with Program Coordinators and HR team.
  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within IMC and amongst beneficiaries served by IMC.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in midwifery, nursing, health sciences education or related field
  • Master’s degree and above in public health, medicine or related discipline preferred
  • Additional training or certification in health sciences/medical education

Experience

  • Three years’ experience in the field of humanitarian response at field or HQ level.
  • Must have proven experience in similar project management including financial and human resource management.
  • 3-5 years’ experience designing, facilitating and managing health sciences education programs (formal midwifery or nursing education program management experience preferred).
  • Experience in engaging with donors
  • Experience working in complex, low-resource environments.
