International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. International Medical Corps has established a World Health Organization Emergency Medical Team Type One Mobile (EMT).
The WHO EMT program was developed to ensure and standardize various expectations for medically oriented NGOs. The guiding principles are intended to inform NGOs of the values required to become verified as an EMT: Provides safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered care. Offer needs-based response according to the context and type of Sudden Onset Disaster (SOD) and/or outbreak in the affected nation. Adopts a human rights-based approach to their response; Ensures they are accessible to all sections of the population affected by the SOD and/or outbreak particularly the vulnerable. Treat patients in medically ethical manner consistent with the World Medical Association Medical Ethics Manual.
All EMTs are accountable to: 1. The patients and communities they assist; 2. Host government and MoH; 3. Own organization and donors. EMTs commit to be: 1. Integrated in a coordinated response under the national health emergency management authorities; 2. Collaborate with the national health system, their fellow EMTs, the cluster and the international humanitarian response community.
Selected EMT members are always on standby to deploy to a crisis within 72 hours, whether they are launching into new areas or lending support to International Medical Corps teams already on the ground. International Medical Corps maintains a roster of volunteers, staff and available specialists who have been interviewed and have completed pre-deployment paperwork, orientation and training. The roster is updated on regular basis as new responders are identified and members update their areas of expertise and other relevant information. Through this expression of interest, applicants are encouraged to submit their profiles so that their information is readily available in the International Medical Corps applicant tracking system.
This position will support International Medical Corp’s Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) as part of international emergency responses. The EMT is a mobile platform delivering limited primary health care services and outpatient clinical care with referrals as needed to disaster effected populations. The position will be working with partner staff as well as other volunteers. The position requires ensuring the provision of high quality clinical care in accordance with international standards and International Medicals Corps’ guidance. The position will be expected to coordinate closely with multiple departments in International Medical Corps as well as external partners in the local government and other NGO’s.
The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing nursing services in a primary health care setting. He/she will be responsible for providing client counseling and direct care including adult, adolescent and pediatric health services for both chronic and acute conditions. He/she is expected to triage patients, ensure smooth patient flow, provide clinical nursing care, assist with referrals as needed and provide health education and hygiene promotion. In addition, he/she may also be requested to assist hospital staff as needed.

Roster members will only be contacted when there is an emergency response need for which the responder is qualified for. This position will not be compensated unless responders are deployed to an emergency response.

In addition to the responsibilities referenced above, candidates can expect to be living and working in austere conditions. Lifting moderately heavy objects from the ground, carrying a backpack for extended periods of time, and walking or hiking in remote locations may be necessary to perform these functions.
