Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

The MHPSS Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all MHPSS programming in urban and camp settings, throughout Jordan, with an emphasis on technical support for programming and capacity-building of staff, guiding mental health service integration into primary health care and supporting national MHPSS initiatives. The MHPSS Coordinator will also be supporting IMC Jordan’s role in the implementation and monitoring of a psychological intervention as part of a collaborative research project.

 GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and monitor high-quality MHPSS programming throughout Jordan, in collaboration with the MHPSS technical team, field staff, and program managers
  • Support the professional, technical development of the MHPSS technical team
  • Oversee the technical quality of programming and technical expertise of the staff
  • Conduct regular MHPSS trainings and capacity-building sessions for staff on topics including case management, psychological first aid, and evidence-based counselling modalities
  • Support the development and implementation of group-based psychosocial programming
  • Provide clinical supervision to staff offering mental health and psychosocial support services and create a peer supervisory network built on foundations of knowledge exchange
  • Oversee child and youth related programming as part of the Makani program, youth empowerment program, and child friendly spaces, and coordinate with IMC protection team to ensure a comprehensive response to each child and family accessing services
  • Conduct regular field visits for programmatic support and technical capacity building
  • Conduct regular file audits to ensure a high quality service is being provided in line with IMC Jordan’s MHPSS protocols and relevant international guidelines
  • Support and coordinate the implementation of a research project aiming to establish evidence-based MHPSS programming, including training and supervision of staff as well as joint monitoring of the rollout of the intervention
  • Monitor the strategy and mechanisms for the integration of mental health and psychosocial support across IMC intersectoral programming and ensure close coordination between the MHPSS department and other departments/sectors
  • Promote ongoing integration of MHPSS at the community level within health facilities and other community-based services
  • Contribute to proposal writing, donor reports and internal IMC reports as required
  • Oversee program technical monitoring and evaluation for all MHPSS program activities
  • Conduct MHPSS-related assessments pertaining to needs on individual and community levels
  • Develop or revise MHPSS training materials, monitoring and evaluation tools, and client documentation forms as needed in collaboration with technical advisor
  • Support the Senior Mental Health Pharmaceutical Officer to monitor the psychotropic consumption in all clinics and ensure there are adequate supplies at all clinics at all times
  • Attend and participate in the MHPSS Working Group and support co-chairs as needed
  • Represent IMC at relevant coordination meetings and promote interagency coordination and MHPSS guidelines
  • Liaise and collaborate with existing government structures and local authorities organizing MHPSS activities and advocating for collaboration on local MHPSS initiatives
  • Assist national partners in the development of the detailed mental health and psychosocial needs implementation plan in accordance with IMC and donor requirements

Qualifications:
  • Mental health professional with MA/S or equivalent in social science – psychology, clinical social work or sociology – is required, with knowledge of public health, protection, human rights, international development, or other relevant field a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years experience (of which at least 3 in the field) of progressively responsible professional experience in humanitarian work, and substantial experience in MHPSS, including in emergencies and in conflict settings
  • Knowledgeable in and experienced using the IASC MHPSS guidelines and best practices and familiarity of the integration of mental health into primary health care settings
  • Experience providing clinical supervision in individual and group settings and setting up supervisory models for large-scale MHPSS programs
  • Experience conducting MHPSS-related trainings and development of training materials
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources
  • Ability to travel on short notice to project sites
