17-338: Associate Corporate Counsel

Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.

As a member of the legal team, the Associate Corporate Counsel will work with the other lawyers in the department to provide advice and counsel to the organization in a number of legal and risk areas, including but not limited to:

  • Government contracts/donor regulations
  • Investigations (external and internal)
  • Ethics and compliance
  • Corporate governance
  • International laws and regulations
  • Employment (national and international)
  • General corporate matters

The Associate Corporate Counsel may need to travel on occasion to field offices but will be based at International Medical Corps’ Los Angeles office (or possibly DC office).

The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment in an industry undergoing numerous changes affecting how international humanitarian aid is awarded and implemented, can multitask, is a self-starter, able to jump into a large variety of novel issues and use good judgment when analyzing and presenting opinions and recommendations to senior management.


Compliance & Ethics:  Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.






  • J.D. required;
  • Strong academic record a must;
  • Admission to practice in any state;
  • At least 2 years of legal experience, preferably in corporate or government contracts;
  • Expertise in drafting legal documents;
  • Strong analytical and communications skills (both written and oral)
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Self starter;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a culturally diverse team;
  • Additional language a plus.
