18-007: Security Intern
Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:


Support the International Medical Corps Department of Global Security program initiatives.  The Department of Global Security provides tools, resources and guidance to all IMC programs, globally.  The drafting and management of security related policies is a key component to ensuring durable programming. 



Provide administrative support to the Security Department.  Specifically, this position will ensure that field based security information is received, reviewed, analyzed and collated.  In addition, working with the Security Department staff and the IMC Travel Department, this position will ensure a professional and streamlined travel approval process.  Other duties include: drafting various security reports, assist in field security incident management, international travel management, and other administrative duties as determined by IMC security staff.


  • Collect, analyze and collate field security information
  • Maintain regular contact with country Security Focal Points
  • Draft weekly security reports for use by the Executive Leadership Team
  • Provide pre-deployment security information for IMC staff deploying internationally
  • Maintain oversight and regular management of IMC’s mandatory computer based security training
  • Provide security approval for international travel
  • Assist with administrative functions of security incident management
  • Produce customized security incident reports
  • Provide any other security support, as requested by the Director of Global Security


  • Interact directly with the Director of Global Security, Global Security Manager and Security Officer.
  • Learn how to gather and disseminate information relevant for the Security Department.
  • Learn how to analyze security factors and levels of risk related to safety of IMC staff in all countries specified and make written recommendations for improvements in both physical safety and operational security in accordance with established SOPs. Follow up on these recommendations to ensure their implementation.
  • Review existing security policies and operational procedures
  • Review and forward weekly SITREPs on occurrence to the Global Security Officer to inform the office of developments.
  • Learn to make quick decisions in emergencies or when rapid response is required
  • Develop technical skills to understand and consolidate the varying specializations such as electronics, communications, mechanics, explosives and other sophisticated devices encountered in security system management.
  • Learn to establish and maintain effective working relations with mission directors, security officers in other agencies, specialists in other fields related to security, representatives of local and national governments and the non-government community, with sensitivity and respect for diversity

    Compliance & Ethics:  Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.
