Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

JOB SUMMARY

 

Under the direct supervision of the MHPSS Director, the psychologist, will work to deliver evidence-based psychological interventions to IDPs, returnees and host communities in various locations covered by the OFDA grant including Ninewa, Erbil, Dohuk and Salaheddine. The selected candidate will work with existing case management teams including case managers, officers and psychiatrists using the designated venue as agreed upon with the directorate of health in the various abovementioned governorates in Iraq. In addition, s/he will work towards building the capacity of MHPSS staff towards better identification of psychological distress among the population providing on-going support to MHPSS case management teams using IMC models.

 
Job specific roles and responsibilities:

Clinical work:

  1. Provide psychotherapy and psychosocial support sessions to internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees and host community members identified by the case management teams or referred by other stakeholders.
  2. To carry out clinical assessment and management of Mental Health patients in close coordination with the interdisciplinary care team including the psychiatrist, IMC MHPSS case management team and other PHCCs staff.
  3. Facilitate psychosocial support sessions for groups and families affected by the ongoing crisis.
  4. Complete intake assessments, psychological evaluations, treatment recommendations, development and review of care plans, and other documentation as necessary.
  5. Keep track of patient numbers/cases through IMC outpatient records that include diagnostic assessments, treatment protocols and follow up procedures, to be submitted at the end of every month to the program manager.
  6. Make necessary and timely referrals when needed in coordination with IMC case management teams and the MH center staff.
  7. Attend weekly technical meetings with the IMC case management team and the MH center staff.
  8. Take part in the supervision activities of the case management teams including facilitation of technical meetings, workshops, and working sessions to fully understand the IC’s approach. This should be developed based on identified needs in agreement with the program manager and the MHPSS Director.
  9. Fill in a time sheet that reflects the number of hours worked in the field.

     

Capacity building and trainings:

  1. Develop a plan to assess and address the training needs of the IMC and non IMC staff from PHCCs, iNGOs and local NGOs, Directorate of Health (DoH) and Ministry of Health (MoH) staff as well through identified challenges making all recommendations and taking necessary steps to improve their work on the ground. 
  2. Develop a methodology for the monitoring and participatory evaluation of trained staff, impact and outcomes and make necessary recommendations to improve the capacity building process.  
  3. To connect with all NGOs, and MHPSS professionals in the area of Mosul and make the necessary action plans to follow up on training of trainers’ participants, implementation of trainings, progress of the referral pathways and quality of referrals made through coordinating bodies such as the Mosul Response Sub-Group. 
  4. Prepare all the necessary materials for trainings, and develop new required material in advance when needed, in collaboration with MHPSS Specialist/Director and MHPSS Technical Advisor. 
  5. Write trainings reports following completion of each training including pre- and post-test results, evaluation of participants, recommendations and action plans. 
  6. Document all training and ensure proper filing and sharing with MHPSS team for data management, M&E, and reporting. 
  7. Write clinical reports and case studies related to MHPSS when it’s required; 
  8. Submit recommendations necessary for the improvement of the technical work of case management teams when needed based on coordination with the program manager and MHPSS director; 
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the MHPSS specialist and MHPSS Director. 

 

 Deliverables:

  1. Submit outpatient records to the program officer in the respective area on time update progress notes, ensure proper filing for MH patients.
  2. Provide monthly summary that include numbers of sessions with specific emphasis on new and follow up disaggregated by age, gender and type of condition for all the sessions conducted at the Mental Health Center level. Summaries should include trends, action taken in terms of treatment protocols and recommendations.
  3. Fill in checklist for monitoring of quality of MHPSS care and Case Managers performances.
  4. Submit timesheets of executed works that include number of sessions, beneficiaries/patients.

Qualifications:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters in Clinical Psychology;
  • Training and experience under clinical supervision in psychotherapy on evidence-based psychological interventions;
  • Trained on Psychological First Aid, familiar with mhGAP manual (various versions IG and HIG) and community based MH training material as well as previous training experience to multicultural groups;
  • Minimum 5-6 years of experience in training, supervision, mental health & psychosocial support and protection work with displaced persons, refugees, returnees / culturally diverse groups in crisis and/or post crisis settings;
  • In depth knowledge and experience in mental health and psychosocial support and protection services;
  • Acquired knowledge of the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings, and IASC Guidelines.
  • Research and M&E experience required;
  • Good command of English (speaking & writing). Fluent in spoken and written Arabic;
  • Excellent command of the use of Microsoft Office especially Outlook, Work, Excel and Power Point;
  • Good communication, teamwork skills and ability to work independently;
  • Previous NGO experience in a crisis setting.
