International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in areas worldwide. International Medical Corps: provides safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered care; offers needs-based response according to the context and type of Sudden Onset Disaster and/or outbreak in the affected nation: adopts a human rights-based approach to their response; ensures they are accessible to all sections of the population affected by the SOD and/or outbreak particularly the vulnerable; and treats patients in a medically ethical manner consistent with the World Medical Association Medical Ethics Manual.

International Medical Corps is accountable to: patients and communities; host government, Ministry of Health; our organization and donors. International Medical Corps commits to a coordinated response under the national health emergency management authorities. International Medical Corps collaborates with the national health system, the cluster and the humanitarian community.

Job Purpose
The primary responsibility of the Pharmaceutical Officer is to support the implementation of medical/surgical services in an emergency setting.

Main Responsibilities

• Ensure pharmaceutical services are implemented according to internationally accepted standards and/or relevant Ministry of Healt
• Provide oversight for the initial orders of drugs and medical/surgical supplies and any GIK orders
• Establish/utilize standardized data collection tools and train staff on accurate data collection in order to track distribution/tracking/consumption
• Collect and analyze consumption data to adjust project objectives/plan additional specialized responses (rational drug use, FIFO protocols, etc)
• Work with logistics/finance to ensure regular and adequate drug and medical supplies in order to avoid stockouts
• Assist in hiring of necessary staff members
• Analyze training needs and institute training for staff members as required, with an emphasis on hands on training
• Work with medical team to implement standardized internal reporting
• Any other relevant duties as requested by Medical Director/Team Leader

• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) or equivalent with at least 3 years experience after graduation;

Experience

• Minimum of five years of experience required, of which 3 years should be of developing country experience or resource deprived environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous NGO experience.
• Will have excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
• Will have excellent self-motivation skills.
• Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGO’s; the ability to work with a broad spectrum of people.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
• Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
• Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.
• Excellent decision making skills.
• Must work independently under difficult conditions.
