International Medical Corps is a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.

BACKGROUND TO THE ASSIGNMENT:

Following the disastrous 2017 and 2018 Atlantic hurricane seasons International Medical Corps has been requested by impacted health departments, healthcare coalitions, and health center facilities to leverage its experience internationally managing health and medical disasters to provide preparedness training to health care staff in communities recovering from disasters such as Hurricanes Maria, Florence, and Michael. The training program aims to strengthen the capacity of health department and medical facility personnel to prepare for health hazards in a manner that improves overall coordination and response to the needs of affected populations.

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The lead instructor will work in coordination with the Domestic Training Officer and Program Director to tailor training curriculum and deliver training to Primary Care Health Centers in North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Florida and USVI.

SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The Lead Instructor will be responsible for the following:

• In preparation for the trainings, review all existing training materials, including the facilitation guide, PowerPoints, participant guides and other materials.
• Prepare and familiarize with the subject matter and training methodologies as needed.
• Serve as the lead training instructor for the trainings
• Work in close collaboration with the Domestic recovery program staff and facilitation team.
• Generate a report at the conclusion of the workshop.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT DELIVERABLES

The Lead instructor will tailor curriculum delivery for the audience by determining which training modules will be presented and ensure any local context considerations are included based on conversations coordinated by the Domestic Training Officer in conjunction with feedback from the local training host entity.

The Domestic Training Officer will support the travel coordination and local movement of the Instructor, along with facilitation of partner introductions.

The Domestic Training Officer will manage the overall training implementation and work with the Program Coordinator to ensure training delivery environment and materials are prepared.

The Instructor will present the curriculum to the audience and utilize electronic and printed materials provided by International Medical Corps. The Lead Instructor is responsible for coordinating the delivery of individual curriculum modules by guest presenters when available. Guest Presenters will be managed by the Domestic Training Officer.

Training evaluation, feedback, and after action discussions will be facilitated by the Domestic Training Officer. The Instructor is responsible for providing written and/or verbal feedback on training session management, curriculum content and delivery methodology, and reporting of participant feedback.

The program is currently scheduled to deliver trainings in North Carolina, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands from April through November of 2019.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major related to a planning or general management field such as, but not limited to, Emergency Management, Business Continuity, Public Health, Public Policy and Administration, Program Management, Business, Urban and/or Environmental Planning.

Experience

• Candidate must be able to lead and deliver healthcare focused emergency preparedness trainings.
• Experience involving the use and application of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command Structure in all-hazard crisis response situations.
• Working knowledge of developing crisis management plans and strategies for large, complex organizations, including, but not limited to, hospitals, community health centers, government agencies or large business enterprises
• Ability to work independently.
• Project management skills with experience using project management tools.
• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills and pays great attention to detail
• Ability to effectively present information (both written and verbally) and respond appropriately to questions from national / regional disaster response agencies, local authorities, international and intergovernmental donors, and other stakeholders.
• Full computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft suite.
• Language: Fluent Spanish and English
