Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: GIS Assistant

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs geographic data entry and quality control; geodatabase maintenance and organization, and in general supports the GIS Team in maintaining International Medical Corps’ Geographic Information System. In addition, it is the responsibility of the GIS Assistant to avoid disclosure of confidential or non-confidential internal information about International Medical Corps, its employees, its donors and its program participants.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the design and development of high quality mapping projects using ESRI’s ArcGIS products;
  • Develop spatial data layers using GIS technology;
  • Research and locate data layers for potential use in mapping projects;
  • Assist in maintaining ArcGIS geodatabases;
  • Learn the basics of managing data stored in Microsoft SQL Server;
  • Learn Deltek Costpoint enterprise data entry;
  • Assist in updating the tagging structure and organization of the ArcGIS Online GIS web portal
  • Assist in team quality control checks of products created using mapping applications;
  • Assist in implementing GIS best practices, standards and procedures;
  • Assist in maintaining standards for development, deployment and administration of GIS projects.  
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Undergraduate degree in geography, planning, engineering, computer science or related field or equivalent experience;
  • 1 year minimum work or educational experience with ESRI ArcGIS products;
  • Basic skills and knowledge of cartographic principles;
  • Experience with geodatabases for the compilation and analysis of geographic data;
  • Experience with raster and vector geospatial data;
  • Experience working with MS SQL Server is preferred;
  • Programming experience is preferred;
  • Strong analytic, problem solving, and collaboration skills;
  • Outstanding organizational skills;
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written;
  • Strong self-motivation skills;
  • The ability to deal with a broad spectrum of people;
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment;
  • Excellent ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast pace, constantly changing environment;
  • Extremely flexible and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
